A resounding victory for Democracy in Carmarthenshire
Keith Davies, Labour’s Assembly Candidate in Llanelli said, “The proposal to privatise Caemaen Residential Care Home and close St Paul’s Residential Care Home was thrown out by councillors at a meeting of Carmarthenshire County Council. Cross party support from Labour, Plaid and some Independent County Councillors spoke strongly against the proposals and reminded those present of the dangers of losing local authority provision in Llanelli and relying on the private sector. Keri Thomas the local Labour member for the Tyisha ward underlined the quality of the present provision in both homes and that he has always received complementary comments from both residents and their relatives about the support provided at both homes.”
Keith further said, “Today we have seen democracy in action. The debate was one of the longest and best debates I have witnessed in the Council Chamber both as a Chief Officer and as a County Councillor.

Victory! St Paul's and Caemaen Care Homes are saved! Keith said, "Today we have seen democracy in action. The people of Llanelli have spoken and I'm glad to say that their Councillors listened, we have had cross party support from Llanelli Town and Kidwelly Labour Councillors, Plaid and some Independents."
