Keith Davies AM to attend public meeting on health

Llanelli AM Keith Davies will attend the Hywel Dda Health Board’s public meeting at Parc Y Scarlets tonight.

The meeting is the first of three to be held across Carmarthenshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion where the public will be able to question senior management about their plans to reconfigure health services.

It is understood that the company responsible for carrying out the engagement process and the current consultation, Swansea based ORS will provide a presentation on future plans, as well as chairing the question time style debate.

Mr Davies is expected to challenge the Hywel Dda Health Board again on rushing into a formal consultation process – well ahead of adjoining Local Health Boards such as Abertawe Bro Morgannwg which intends to consult in Spring 2013.

Keith Davies AM said:

“I have raised concerns throughout the engagement process that Hywel Dda Health Board are going too fast, too soon on pushing through service change.  It seems foolish to consider changes in west Wales when we do not know fully how services may change in Swansea or further along the M4 corridor.

“The South Wales Programme Board consisting all Health Boards in the south Wales area is collaborating on developing sustainable services.  To me, it seems absurd that Hywel Dda management maintain an ‘arms length’ approach to the South Wales Programme Board, when with limited resources, I would expect a more unified approach so that services provided by Hywel Dda LHB complement those to be offered further east.”
